Widespot, Season 2 - Land & Beech

“Mary!!! I’m growing up today, want to come to my party?”

“Wouldn’t miss it for the world, River. I’ll ask Rhett to babysit.”

That’s Jill Smith and Sharla Ottomas at the party. They’re his BFFs.

Since he’s got 10 outgoing points and his bio implies he always wanted more friends, I picked popularity for River’s aspiration! He’s looking at fellow popularity sim Sharla with a new set of eyes.

Meanwhile, these two extremely problematic romantic events took place.

Meanwhile, in the Beech house, Sandy’s still continuing her affair. She’s thinking about breaking it off with Rhett, since her new job takes up so much of her time now, and she’s no longer bored at home. She kind of wants to come out with the truth to Hamilton, but she’s so scared of losing him, and he might not, might not understand

Happy Birthday, Mimi Beech! She looks just enough like Sandy for it not to be too obvious who the real father is.

Daytona was working late, so she missed the brat’s birthday.

No matter. She’d had a bad feeling about that kid ever since Sandy got pregnant, and now that the kid is growing and Hamilton’s getting attached she figures it’s about time she and Sandy had a little talk.

“Listen, you need to tell Hamilton the truth or I will! What you’re doing to him isn’t fair.”

“What are you talking about?”

“He deserves to know, Sandy!”

Mimi deserves to have a father.”

“Don’t get all self-righteous with me. You’re the one who cheated behind your husband’s back. If Mimi grows up without a real family, it’ll be your fault, not mine!”

“I know you think you’re just protecting your family, but this is my family, too. And I think you’re jealous Ham listens to me more than he does you these days. You don’t control me any more, Daytona.”

Hamilton thought his mother and wife fighting was a great joke… until he realized they were practically trying to kill each other.

“Mom?”

“Ha! That’ll teach- Hamilton? You’re awake?”

“What’s going on?”

“Your harpy of a mother attacked me!”

“Wha? Mom? It’s this true?”

“It’s damn true, and I’d do it again!”

“What’s got into you, Mom? This isn’t like you.”

“What’s gotten into me? What’s gotten into you? Are you so blinded by love you can’t see the truth when it’s staring you right in the face?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Ugh, God, you even sound like her! What I’m talking about, Hamilton, is the fact that your ‘daughter’ clearly isn’t your daughter!”

“That’s a terrible thing to say!”

“It’s the damn truth! The only terrible thing here is this smug slut getting away with the whole sordid thing.”

“I think you’d better leave.”

“You don’t want to listen you your mother when she’s just trying to look out for you? Fine, I’ll go. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Sandy is thrilled Hamilton’s taking her side for a change and finally standing up to his mother, and decides to give him a little reward.

When all’s said and done, though, the guilt claws at her.

“Come here, Mimi, my special little girl.”

“Mama!”

That’s right. I’m your Mama, and Ham’s your Papa. Don’t let that mean old lady tell you otherwise, okay?”

“Daytona! What brings you here?”

“I’m sorry, Beu, I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t urgent, but do you mind if I stay here a couple of nights?”

“It’s no trouble with us! Right, Homer? With Mary all married up and Dixie off ‘ta college, we’ve got a couple of spare beds. Everything okay at home?”

“It’s that damn wife of Hamilton’s, again. Sometimes I’d like to grow a cow-plant and drink the stupid bitch.”

“Now now, Day! There’ll be no swearing nor evil plotting as long as you’re under our roof.”

“It’s a shame I’m movin’ to college before winter comes in, I’ll miss the snow!”

“Hey now, I’m sure there’ll be snow where you’re headed.”

“I hope so. You know at LFT they don’t have snow, like, ever?”

“Well, it’s in the desert, so I can’t say I’m surprised.”

Dixie throws a big leaving party with all her pals, along with big sister Mary. (That’s Virginia, Woody, Bottom, Benedick, Ripp, Dustin, and Sharla. She and Sharla aren’t really friends yet but she knows River has a thing for her.)

“If you want my advice, you should just walk up and plant one on him. There’s no sense in beating around the bush.”

“Does that really work?”

Dustin shrugged. “It worked on Angela! But who knows if you’ve got my natural charm.”

“Well, I’m gonna test it out. Wish me luck!”

Since it’s Dixie, of course it’s a roof raiser! It continues into the night, long after she’s left for college.

Daytona ignores the friend she’s brought home from work, and decides to accept a random townie’s offer of a blind date. He’s a college student, and Day’s happy to teach him a thing or two.

I wish I’d captured more of their date, since they really hit it off! And it helps distract Daytona from the drama back home.

Whilst I’m distracted with the party and date, poor Delta grows up without a birthday party! I’m so sorry, Delta. When you’re old enough for college I promise to give you a nice send-off.

I felt like someone other than Scot needs to continue the Land’s family-aspiration theme, but also give her a knowledge secondary since she’s very serious and wants to be an ecological guru someday. Since she’s ambitious, Homer decides it’s high time she learnt to study properly!

She’s into dark haired, well-spoken boys, and hates stink. She’s not too thrilled with the giant afro I gave her, but she’s the one who transitioned into that disco-esque outfit and I think she looks incredibly cute so she’ll have to get used to it ;)

Daytona ends up in bed with her new boy-toy, and nobody wants to interrupt them. It takes a bit of time before the household realize she’s gone!

I have to admit, I feel REALLY bad for letting Daytona die with so much unfinished business, no family around to mourn her, and for not cataloging her final moments properly! I was distracted with Delta’s transition and the party… the Land household is so busy, it’s easy to let major events get lost in the shuffle! Day’s death with definitely have a huge effect on the neighborhood, though.
