Strangetown, Season 2 (Autumn) - Specter

Ophelia doesn’t fancy a big leaving party, and plans to spend her last night in Strangetown by herself, in quiet contemplation.

Of course, when her friend Meadow visits all the way from Pleasantview she can’t just tell her to leave, so. They hang out.

“Are you excited to be going to college?”
“I don’t know. I’m worried, honestly.”
“You’re always worried!“
“Sorry.”
“Nah, it’s okay. Tell me what you’re thinking about.”
“Well… Aunt Olive’s going to be on her own again. She claims she doesn’t mind, but I think she liked having me here. She gets lonely.”
“Ms Specter always kind of scared me.”
“Yeah, she scares a lot of people.”
“I always thought she liked scaring people! She’s always pulling those silly pranks.”
“I don’t know, she says she does. Maybe I’m just projecting.”
“Well, how can you be lonely? You’ve got lots of friends.”
“…and I’ll be leaving most of them behind when I go to LFT.”
“Ah. Yeah.”

“Bella! So good to hear from you. I knew you were alive… Oh, I don’t know, just a feeling. How are you? Will you be rejoining the party circuit?”

Olive took a lot of pride in her work as a party guest, but she had to admit the work was tiring. She was considering retirement, but… without her work, what would she do all day?

Knowing her, she’d fall in love with someone. And knowing her, they’d wind up dead somehow. It was probably safer for her to keep busy.

“How did you get on to my property? Can’t you see I’m busy cooking and brooding? Get outta here.”
