Pleasantview, Season 2 (Autumn) - Pleasant, part 2

Daniel, in full mid-life crisis mode, had gone Downtown and got himself one of the worst makeovers ever.

He was proving more successful with the ladies as ever, though. Maybe it was the new look.

His new life as a player was fun, but his thoughts did keep drifting back to Mary-Sue. He still loved her a lot, and he missed having his wife around. Would she ever come back?

“I miss Mom.”

“I do too, sweetheart.”

“Yeah, right. Why do you keep having all those other women over, though. I’m not an idiot, Dad! Lilith was right. If we’d just stopped fighting all the time, maybe-”

“Listen here, angel. This isn’t about you and Lilith. It’s between me and your mother. Now, listen up. I do miss your mother, but I don’t know if she’s going to take me back. And if she does forgive me, I figure it’s best to get all this out of my system while I can so I don’t re-offend.”

“That’s bullshit, Dad, but whatever.”

At least she still looked hot. That was something to cling on to in this dark time.

“So now they’ve axed Limpy the Llama altogether and I’m out of a job, on top of all this! God, Dustin, life isn’t fair sometimes.”

“I guess the mascot crowd is pretty over-saturated when it comes to llamas. Sim State uni’s Lewie the Llama is pretty popular, though, so I should be okay for now.”

“Yeah, I guess too many llamas is right. Sim State and Le Tour both have llamas!”

“I’ve always been into the evil cow mascot of Fiesta Tech, myself.”

“Dustin, no! The llama is popular for a reason. It’s our national animal. Screw that stupid cow mascot and screw ‘Limpy the Lepton’!”

“Speaking of which, Dustin, have you given any thought to which college you’re going to next year?”

“I don’t know, Ange. I always just assumed I wouldn’t get into college.”

“But your grades are so good now! You could totally get in. My Mom wants me to go to Le Tour since it’s distinguished but Dad says Sim State has the best sports team, and I’d like to get into university sports so I don’t know… What do you think?”

“I know Sim State’s campus, I guess, since I do the mascot thing there for work.”

“Is it nice?”

“It’s cool. Man, I never even imagined I’d be thinking about this.”

“Well, time to start thinking!”

“I’m going to apply to wherever you’re going, okay? I want us to go to college together.”

“Yikes, are you sure? I mean, you have to think about yourself, as well as me.”

“I’m not thinking about you or me, I’m thinking about You And Me. Long distance is for losers.”

Angela didn’t say anything, but in that moment decided it would have to be Sim State. Like, could Dustin’s family afford Le Tour? She doubted it, even on scholarship. She’d be torn between the two and, in a way, this made things easier for her.

Some miscellaneous shots of Angela this round, including her hanging out with her main friend group.

(Dustin kept coming in and watching Angela sleep. I can’t decide if it’s cute or creepy but I’m so not wrong about him idolising the fuck out of her.)

“Sue! Glad you could make it.”

“No problem. It’s nice to be home.”

Daniel’s heart leapt. Home. Was she…?

“I don’t know where to start so I’m going to just be frank. I’ve met someone else.”

“You’ve… met someone?”

“Yeah! It just sort of happened, but wow!”

“That’s… great, Sue. Who is he?”

“Gerald from work! He’s amazing! I think maybe I understand why you were always cheating, now. I mean, yeah, it was douchey, but now I see that our marriage was always lacking that spark.”

“What?”

“Come on, Dan. The woohoo was abysmal!”

Daniel was dismayed. Actually, he’d found all the women he’d been with since her surprisingly lacklustre, and had been looking forward to their reunion. Was this really what Mary-Sue thought?

“So..? What now?”

“Well, I think we should get a divorce. It’s the obvious step, right? We’re both happier apart, right?”

“Honestly, I… I’m not sure.”

“Well, I’m happier apart. I’m happier living in the trailer with Mom and Dad than I have been in years. I want a divorce.”
