Strangetown, Season 1 (Spring & Summer) - Part 4

“Hey, Laz. Where’s Vid?”

“Oh, you know, just checking his e-mail! Again.”

“Again? Vid, checking every 5 minutes isn’t going to get Circe to respond any quicker, you know. It’s simple statistics.”

“Let’s face it, she’s not going to respond, period. You gotta let it go, bro.”

“Fuck off, guys!”

“Haha. You need to learn to chill. Like me! Anyway, Pascal, how’s the M-preg life treatin’ ya? Need a backrub?”

“That’d be great, actually.”

Pascal’s son, Tycho, was born that night. He was relieved the pregnancy was over, being pregnant was never fun, especially when you were a dude, but, well. Wow.

He was a father now. That was sort of daunting!

Sick of his brothers’ teasing, Vidcund heads out to update his wardrobe, and meets a charming young lady.

“I’m from the Sim State Garden Club, myself. Scoping out some of the local gardens out here!”

“Well, it’s Strangetown. There’s not much that grows here but cactus.”

“True, but you’d be surprised what you can do with desert plantlife.”

“I suppose I’m simply not partial to cactus gardens. My brothers and I just keep an indoor greenhouse.”

“Sounds lovely! Have you seen the garden of that yellow house, though? They’re managing, somehow!”

“Ah, yes. That’s my sister Jenny and her family. They’re a little of the eccentric side.” He paused, “not that I’m in any position to call somebody eccentric. My house is the one on top of the hill.”

“With the contraption on the roof?”

“That’s the one.”

“Heh. I’ll have to swing by sometime and check out your greenhouse.”

He ends up talking Pascal into a wardrobe update, too, over a game of chess. At the store, he meets Goneril Capp!

(While Pascal was at the store, this was happening outside. Titania is saddened to find conflict amongst teens isn’t unique to Veronaville.)

Vid is a keen botanist.

“Hey Laz, good to see ya! How’s the sex life?”

“Still single, just like the rest of us.”

“Hey, I’m from the Singles house. Just because you’re single, doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun!”

“I think you’re just having too much fun, sis. You’re jinxing it for the rest of us.”

People tended to view Lazlo as the least serious of the Curious brothers, and maybe they were right to, but he was just as committed to their astrology projects as the others.

The rest of the family paid regular visits, too. P.T. was always interested to hear about their latest research. With baby Tycho around, visits from the Smiths were more frequent than ever.

Presented without comment.

“C-congratulations on the promotions, Mr. Curious.”

“Thank you, Mr Weiss. I have to admit, I had an ulterior motive in inviting you over.”

“Oh?”

“I heard… you were abducted once, too?”

“Ah, yes. Twice, in fact.”

“Twice??”

“This is Pollination Technician #9. We call him P.T.”

“Ah, Mr Weiss. I remember you.”

“Were you the one who, um, pollinated me?”

“Ha! No, that was one of our female technicians.”

“Well, anyway, ah, you’ll be pleased to hear Penny and Woody are doing just fine.”

“You all right, Mr Weiss?”

“Yes, I’m fine. I just find crowds a little overwhelming. You have quite the large family! A fascinating collaboration between man and the aliens.”

“Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Got any tips on raising Tycho, since you’ve done it all before?”

“They eat the same as humans, essentially. I’ll lend you my old baby food recipe books.”
