Driftwood MMC - Year 1 - Winter - Founding Home
Next up is the brand new Foundling home. Three toddlers is a lot of care for, but between the two of them Abbess Branwyne & young acolyte Grace have it under control.
The eldest of the orphans are Godric and Walter. Godric can be a little michevous, but the two of them are the best of friends and always playing together :)
Godric also takes on a surprisingly active role in caring for the little kids! He’s really playful and nice, which is a lovely combination. It’s a shame he’s the eldest, I can already tell the orphanage will miss him when he’s gone :(
I didn’t get nearly enough pictures of her, but Alisone grew into an eccentric genius who loves music! I definitely see a future for her as a minstrel, perhaps I will follow @mortia’s concept of having her try and earn a patronship from a wealthy benefactor. I know Primrose is interested in music…
Abbess Branwyne suffered from illness for a lot of the round, but luckily had Grace to take over while she rested in bed. Soon enough so was healthy again, and even had time to do some “guest preaching” at the church (earning them some extra money!)
A cute little day out at the village green. Joshua Harwood took quite a liking to Grace, but it doesn’t seem to be mutual!
Sadly, the Foundling Home’s good fortunes did not last - poor Abbess Branwyne suffered a heart attack one night while playing with the kids and suddenley died!
Not gonna lie, I decided to uninstall the elder sickness & death mod after this - since all three of the elders that just joined the town died in their first round! I think the mod takes into account stuff like lifetime aspiration and friends when caculating the chance of early death, but it puts my poor fresh-outta-CAS elders at such a disadvantage that it ended up frustrating me quite a bit. (I know the mod is still a WIP anyway, maybe I will try it again in future if it’s easy to tune.)
RIP Branwyne, I’m sure the kids will miss you!
The one good to come of this is that when Clarissa came over to sort out burial arrangements, Grace and Clarissa ended up burying the hatchet. I can’t remember if it's come up, but the two had taken an instant dislike to each other and even became enemies. (Which I probably did not show pictures of because Clarissa gets into fights with literally everyone, haha.)
Grace: So, um, about the burial fee-
Clarissa: Are you stupid? Obviously you don’t have to pay that. You’re part of the church!
After this little chat, the enemy tags were gone, and Clarissa even rolled a want to make friends!
Poor Grace is left alone to look after the distraught orphans. She was thinking about leaving the clergy and having kids of her own, but now that might not be a possibility… she can’t just leave them, after all, not when they need her…
Also, Isabel ages up! Her hobby is literature, and I’m wondering if writing might be something she persues someday.
Right, that’s the Foundling Home all done for the winter! It was definitely sadder than I expected, and I hadn’t really considered that most of the toddlers would age up so quickly!
With so much disease and death in this neighbourhood and no real birth control, I’m sure we’ll have more orphans sooner or later. But might add some more myself if things in the house get too quiet. That’s a long way off though, of course!
Adoption might be a route some sims go down - I am thinking it might be a way for some sims to have an heir or apprentice if they aren’t interested in marriage. But orphans might also be brought into a household as live-in servants, or as part of a betrothal. Lots of options!
