Year 1 - Autumn - Men at Arms
Next up: the Military Barracks! The soilders were all at work when I loaded up this household - and Thomas Dowrick showed up right away, evidently enquiring as to Sir Roberte’s intentions towards his daughter.
Sir Roberte assured him he loved Margery, and fully intended to do right by her, with Thomas’ blessing. But Thomas was not convinced! He’s a fairly traditional family sim, and did not appreciate Roberte and Margery woohooing already - right under Thomas’ own roof! And Roberte might be a knight - but would he really be able to balance military service with his duties as a husband?
Just as the two were finally sitting down to try and settle their differences, the burger came wandering by the barracks? With his worried pose, I kind of wonder if he was here to turn himself in.
But, hoping to win over Thomas, Sir Roberte sprang into action.
After losing the fight, our thief gets locked up in a jail cell I made in one of the towers. I saw these chains in @mortia’s game (part of the Price of Victory set) and really wanted to try them out for myself! I ended up feeling really bad for the poor guy, though.
He’ll remain jailed here for the season, before being released when Winter comes. I’m not sure what to do with him after that, maybe he’ll be an “outcast” townie?
Primrose and Lord Lionel visit once again. I’ve devised a system to determine who Primrose will marry, with points allocated based on who is highest in their career, who the Lord favours, who Sir Roberte personally reccommends, and who Primrose actually likes best.
It’s hard to get the Lord & Heiress to actually interract with the soilders, though. They both always just want to work on their archery skill!
The soilders arrive back at the base and join everyone for dinner. They get to know Lord Lionel and Primrose better, while Sir Roberte continues working on the Dowrick parents, promising them to properly provide for Margery. He lacks lands of his own, but has enough money squirrelled away that he can provide her with a nice yeoman-level cottage and even a business, if she wants it. Eventually, the Dowricks agree he can marry Margery, if she desires it.
The next day is Roberte’s day off, so he invites Margery to the barracks (she showed up with her mother! aw), declares his love for her, and asks for her hand. She happily accepts!
Time for another wedding at the church! Margery’s on cloud nice after sucessfully marrying a rich sim. The fact that she also loves him is a nice bonus, too.
As Roberte is in charge of the barracks, the couple will live seperately. But he’ll visit often and send her some of his income to help her support herself and any children. (I installed the child support mod to help facilitate this!)
I actually think they’re a very sweet match. They have really high chemistry and a lot in common despite the age gap, I think it’s very cute that they are both vegetarians who love animals! Normally gentry class sims shouldn’t be able to marry peasants but I figured Roberte is a special case since:
- He’s military, and the MCC rules say sims living in the barracks are “class fluid” bachelors (though it doesn’t really tie the special lot Heads of Household into this, which is why they’ll live seperately)
- He’s already pretty old and doesn’t have any living parents to dissaprove of the match
- He is Lord Lionel’s younger brother, and doesn’t himself own any land
- Roberte has the “inappropriate” traits, and perhaps would pay little regard to tradition
- Rules are just guidelines, I can do what I want xD
With that last point in mind, Margery is promoted to yeoman class! She’s also going to be running the neighbourhood’s very first Tavern, which will upgrade the neighbourhood to a Hamlet. So, more new faces will be arriving in the Winter. Exciting stuff.
“What? My brother’s marrying a peasant. I thought I’d dress for the occasion.”
Lord Lionel doesn’t really understand the appeal of marrying some peasant, especially at their age, but if it makes his brother happy…
Did you know if you make a burglar playable, all their stolen goods show up in their inventory??? I sure didn’t! But Alexander and Lord Lionel get their stuff back.
Then Helen shows up to be all adorable with her husband. Why is she even here???
Clarissa comes jogging by in her old “holy knight” gear. Missing the soilder life after all, Clarissa??
Quick update on the soilders, since they’ve not really been the focus. Nicolas Parry is doing the worst in his career, only having made it to Pikeman (level 3). He’s had horrible luck at chance cards and has become the butt of many jokes at work!
Sir Roberte doesn’t seem to fond of him, either, although he does try to help. When he’s not training, Nick is usually found strumming on the lute. I thought this might be something he and Primrose could bond over, but he’s not made much of an impact on her…
Next is Reginald Moore. He’s serious, ambitious and maybe a little neurotic. He’s also easy to get along with, being the most popular person at the barracks by a long shot and the only one of the men to have actually befriended Sir Roberte. He’s comfortably in the middle of the three career wise, having reached level 4 (archer).
He’s not very interested in Primrose, mainly owing to the fact that he’s not really interested in women in general. But, since he’s ambitious, it’s not like he’d say no to the match! It’s a shortcut to a better life, after all…
But Elliot’s the highest in the running! Shy but incredibly brave and kindhearted, he’s demonstrated incredible skill in the field and has made it all the way to level 5 (engineer). That’s just one promotion away from achieving knighthood on his own merit!
He’s actually befriended Primrose, too. Whle they don’t have the best chemistry, she favours him very storngly over the other soilders. The only issue is that he’s fallen for Hannah Shepherd, and low-key wants to marry her instead. Hannah has made it quite clear she’s not interested in marriage, though… he’s not sure he would make her truly happy. Maybe marrying rich is the way to go?
At the end of the round, the burglar finally gets unchained and freed, after a very stern lecture!
