With Lewis aging up in a day & Duncan and Erin’s story nicely concluded, I was finally ready to pass Robin River neighbourhood on the the next simmer in the chain: @charmandersims! But first: the Heir Poll!!! These are important in legacies - they determine who the "main character" will be in the following generation. The poll was hosted on Tumblr back in April 2020, but it made sense to include it here, too.
Will it be Lewis, the kind-hearted slacker who tries his best despite his inherent laziness? Penelope, the eccentric and socially awkward horse-girl, who gets perfect grades and prefers animals to people? Or Finn, the baby-faced jock who loves boats and wants nothing more than a nice normal family?
Lewis often feels like he’s been dealt an unfair hand. He’s clumsy, he finds school super hard, and he’s always so tired. He doesn’t want to be lazy, not really, he has dreams of making it big someday! But there are so many things to try and directions to go and there’s always stuff like homework and chores and life getting in the way…
Still, he’s had some modest sucess with his money-making schemes. His lemonade business was a huge sucess, especially when he took on his younger siblings as “apprentices”. His Mom always told him “work smarter, not harder” and Lewis may not be smart but he is doing his best, damn it! Now that his grades are out of the toilet he’s managed to secure a part time job, too! Things are looking up!
Art is about the only thing comes naturally to him, he loves painting and getting creative in general - it would be cool to get into making stuff likes clothes someday! He’s always admired women’s fashion and is a fan of hats in particular, Penelope’s cowgirl hat was a gift from him. If he sees a pretty dress or a cool hat he will rush over to compliment it!
He loves women in general but girls don’t always pick up on the fact that he is trying to flirt with them - he’s just so nice and polite? He’d rather be respectful regardless though, he’s old enough to remember his father’s colourful history with women and the last thing he wants is to repeat that behaviour. There’s gotta be a way to be a ladies man without being a heartbreaker, right?
It’s hard being the middle child, and the only shy one when you have 2 super-outgoing brothers! Penelope tries, but she’s never really been that much of a people-person. Too over-competitive, or over-affectionate, or “too much”, or just plain weird.
That’s okay, though. Penelope marches to the beat of her own drum and has always prefered animals to people. Horses are her favourite, but she has a real affinity for stray dogs, cats, even wolves! They just get her, you know? Horses can’t call you a “cringe nerd”.
Anything she can win at Penelope loves, whether that’s games, team sports, or her personal favourite, cross country riding. The great outdoors is where she belongs, preferably somewhere in the mountains! She often curses the fact that she had to be born in Robin River, a town that doesn’t even have a winter. Unfair, right?
Not only is she the shy one is the family, Penny is also the smart one. She’s been maintaining a solid A+ for most of her school life, and has a particular talent for writing and photography. She’s got her heart set on being a journalist some day, maybe writing a travel blog or being a sports columnist… her very own horse-themed magazine would be the dream.
If Finn is completely honest, his heritage has always made him feel a little insecure and out of place. It’s weird growing up knowing you’re the product of an affair and having two moms, but not in the cool, queer way. It doesn’t help that he’s always been really close with his (step)mom, Erin. They go sailing together once a month and everything!
He would love to get to know his little sister Millie better, too! Finn gets along with almost everyone in his family, but he has always clashed with Penelope - she is just so weird and he hates that people think of them as twins. They’re not twins!
He’s super concious of his image and just wants to be a nice, normal, well-adjusted kid. His life plan is to find a nice girl (or boy!) and fall in love and get married and have a nice normal well-adjusted family! He’s always loved reading his parent’s book collection and has a particular fondness for Erin’s seafaring romances - he is determined to make his very own happily ever after or die trying.
Finn’s a very sporty guy, like his dad, which has been great because he gets to hang out with all the other sporty kids and he just loves the athletic types, the sweatier the better. Right now though he’s really into this girl he’s dating, Rhianna! She’s a basketball player and she’s so cool. Maybe he’ll marry her…
Finn is naturally outgoing and charismatic - he’s popular at school and captain of the football team, he’s thinking of trying out for the boxing team once the season ends, too. A lot of people tell him he should go into sports like his father when he grows up, but he’s got this secret dream of becoming Mayor of Robin River and really improving things in his beloved home town.
When voting was closed a clear winner emerged! Let’s give a round of applause for Penelope Huckleberry, our Gen II heir! She definitely deserves it. If you'd like to read about what she got up to, you can read Charmandersims' Generation, over on her Tumblr! It's a pretty wild ride.
But for me, this is where the story ends! This legacy challenge was some of the most fun I've ever had playing the sims, and it was fun revisiting it while archiving it here, too! I still have a major soft spot for this neighbourhood and family and hope to come back to it someday! Maybe play my own Alternate Universe continuation, after the official challenge is complete. I'll update this page is I ever get around to that! Until then...
